STEPIN Vyacheslav Semionovitch

Well- known Russian philosopher, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He works in the sphere of theory of cognition, philosophy and methodology of science, philosophic anthropology and philosophy of culture, history of science. Graduated from philosophical department of the faculty of philosophy, Belarusian State University (1956) and the post-graduate courses at the chair of philosophy of above University (1959). Since 1959 - lecturer's work: assistant, lecturer, assistant professor at the chair of philosophy of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. Since 1974 works at the department of philosophy of the faculties of Humanities of the Belarusian State University as assistant professor, professor; 1981-1987 as the Head of the chair. 1987-1988 - Director of the Institute of History of Natural Sciences and Techniques of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, from 1988 till present time - Director of the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now Russian Academy of Sciences) and Head of the chair of philosophic anthropology at the department of philosophy of the Moscow State University. Ph.D. thesis - "General methodological problems of scientific cognition and modern positivism" (1965). Thesis for the degree of the Doctor of Philosophy - "Problem of structure and genesis of physical theory" (1975). In 1987 was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, in 1994 - an active member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1998), foreign member of the National Academy of Ukraine (1999), honorary professor of Moscow State University (1999), honorary doctor of the Novgorod University (2000), honorary doctor of the Karlsruhe University, Germany (1998), active member of the International Institute (Academy) of Philosophy, Paris (2000). He is an author of more than 270 works, including 17 monographs. Among them are: "Formation of a scientific theory" (1976); "Philosophic anthropology and philosophy of science" (1992); " Age of changes and scenarios of future" (1996), "Theoretic knowledge" (2000). He is an organizer and leader of big joint projects with foreign universities and scientific centres (USA, Germany, France, China) on problems of philosophy of science and techniques, globalization and basic values of culture.
